Nova Galicia Edicións was set up in Vigo in 1984. Our main objective was to recover historical documents for their facsimilar publication and to promote our art and culture in our country and abroad. In 1997 we started a huge project: Artists Painters, Artists Architects and Artists Sculptors that contains 30 titles at this moment, devoted to the most important painters, sculptors and architects (over 500). We also publish exhibition catalogues and monographs of great masters of art. In 2004 our book "Quessada. Art and Freedom" was awarded as the best published book in the category of art by the Ministry of Culture.
Our series "Learning to Live", "What about...?" and "Learning to Grow" deal with current issues interesting for the whole society such as drugs, alcohol, tobacco, school violence, eating disorders, climate change, sexuality, healthy diet... The books are written in a simple way with many photographs so that children and teenagers can easily understand their message. They are being a great success in many different countries because the topics are of interest not only for children but also for their parents, teachers and also in many cases for the government.
In 2003 Nova Galicia started a new editorial line with the publication of children's books. We have created a series called "Mum's Tales" that offers a world full of fantasy, so that reading becomes real fun for children and they start enjoying it. The texts are aimed to first readers; that is why they are written with a simple language, a short text, this makes them easy to understand. They have full-colour illustrations for a better understanding of the story and to make it easier for them to discover the different values hidden into them.
Nova Galicia is promoting our culture and art by attending the main international book fairs in the world. We have been exporting our books since 1997 to places such as China, Taiwan, South Africa, México, Iran, Puerto Rico...And we have also sold the translation rights for languages such as Brazilian or Dutch.
